It was an honor to have my sculpture included in the 5 month long sculpture invitational outdoor exhibition at the Cape Cod Museum of Art. So many talented sculptors graced the museum with their works inside and out. The exhibit ended this weekend and I’m looking forward to the next one in 2024. @capecodmuseumofart thank you for this wonderful experience.

I’ve been posting the progress of this large wall sculpture in my stories for the last couple of months. All 19 interlocking wave tiles made it safely to the kilns, ( it took two car loads, 23 miles x4!) firing slow and crossing my fingers they turn out ok🤞🏼putting this large puzzle back together again will be interesting.

One of my favorite projects of 2020 is installed and photographed! These large porcelain wall hanging rays are each a little over 20 inches and they span 8 feet when hung together on the wall. I’m loving the way they look from every angle in the room. (Swipe to see the different angles) 🌊

Wall hanging ceramic loop sculpture. If you watched my stories over the past few months you probably saw the making of this interlocking loop sculpture. A little over 4 feet around, this sculpture was inspired by my Ancestors and motherhood. Each loop represents the idea of a new generation. Like the growth rings of a tree I want to each loop to suggest time and expansion. The interlocking zipper loop represents a literal connection I feel to my family, ancestors, and nature that appear to be woven together. 🌊

✨Scroll to see the hidden room and the way this terracotta sculpture illuminates the walls and ceilings of a room. A few posts ago I showed the process behind this 6 foot long interlocking piece. Today it is finished and photographed! 🙌🏼 Took a few months but I’m glad she’s finally off the back burner. A new piece inspired by this one is in the works. Can’t wait to share it.

Wall hanging “growth” tiles. Some of you have watch the making (and remaking) of this sculpture in my stories over the last few months. The final interlocking row turned out better the second time and taught me not to dwell on kiln casualties. These wall tiles are inspired by the way something can grow from virtually nothing. The way plants sprout and people flourish. We see it in nature, ourselves, and each other. 🌱

These terracotta wall panels are finally glazed and assembled. It’s been a while! The glaze resembles water flowing over polished stones. (Scroll for a close up of the glaze!) This wall sculpture consist of 4 large panels and assembled it spans 5 feet. It can be hung vertically or horizontally because I love having choices.

My final large scale ceramic sculpture of the seme

My final large scale ceramic sculpture of the semester is finally finished. (not pictured are a few extra chain links that don’t fit on this 6 foot temporary work surface). This entire sculpture stacks and interlocks. The 24” tall barnacle tower is made in three parts that fit together with interlocking flanges. This modular approach also means the chain can be configured in multiple ways. It can climb up the wall to the ceiling or hang off a table and circle on the floor. The pandemic certainly has a role in the way this sculpture communicates. Nature has made a home on this large chain and although thriving it is grounded and anchored in place much like I’m currently feeling. The tiny room tucked away out of sight invites the viewer to slow down and take a closer look. (If you missed the hidden room in a previous post, scroll to check it out). Nature has an incredible way of taking over. Man-made structures left to nature become overtaken, be it the abandoned house on the corner covered in vines and trees, or shipwrecks engulfed in sea life. Our footprint is large and powerful, much like these chains, but left alone nature’s force and persistence is stronger.

#workinprogress if you have been checking my stories you’ve seen this sculpture come together these last few weeks. This is part one of an interlocking large barnacle sculpture and it is nearly finished. Today I added a hidden room to one of the barnacles, a little “quarantine signature” that I am so excited about! Loving this unexpected touch that invites people to pause and take a closer look. Hope everyone is well and staying healthy.

Scroll to see how this was made! Finally finished my 2nd large scale ceramic project (from home). This project took a month to finish and with all the craziness of this pandemic, I’ve completely lost track of how many hours I put into it. These sculptural wall tiles are inspired by sea urchins. These 4 large terra-cotta tile panels interlock so they appear to be one large 6ft tall ( or wide) wall sculpture. Now to slowly dry and hope that she survives 4 kids ( that play a little too close) and a 35 minute car ride next month to be glazed and fired🤞🏼 #cvpaumassd

#workinprogress I made these simple sprig molds to speed up the production part of these wall tiles. When trying to crank out hundreds of these little segments a mold really helps! So does having everything in its place and prepped much like having your mise en place when cooking. Each one of these clay segments will be altered before attaching them to the tile. Stay tuned!

Large scale sculptural wall hanging progress. Campus studios are closed for a few weeks so I will be finishing this project from home. It’s been a very long week but now that I’m finally starting to feel a little better I can focus on putting these components on large tiles before adding the finishing touches. ✨ Unique selling point✨ is the prompt for day 13 of the #marchmeetthemaker challenge by @joannehawker and its a hard one! It’s hard to not feel awkward about it! I feel like I’m bragging about myself when describing such things. It’s not in my nature to boast about myself and my work and that makes it hard to promote my pieces. (My husband and I laugh that I’m in the wrong profession because I have a tendency to give things away.) At the least, I’d like everyone to know that I put my whole heart and soul into everything I make. My work is always authentic to myself and my own style. The unique aspect of my work is the maker, ME. So thankful for everyone who enjoys my work and supports me with all their love! It truly means the world to me! 💕

✨learning curve✨ I have a huge learning curve to talk about that I’m still trying to conquer. It’s Day 12 of the #marchmeetthemaker challenge by @joannehawker. Surprisingly I have been able to keep up! and I’m so glad because I have met some really sweet women because of this challenge! 💕
The beast of a learning curve I am battling is glaze. Yup. The word alone makes me want to hide. Like my last post explained painting was my first favorite medium. Even my polymer clay sculptures are hand painted with acrylics. Acrylics are true and loyal, they don’t lie and flake on you when you’re counting on them the most. Glaze on the other hand, is anything but easy going for me. I’ve ruined multiple pieces with glaze let downs. I find I always have high hopes for glaze but what I really need to do is take the time to test it first. Sometimes it’s an absolute win and sometimes it’s not. (I’m not much of a gambler so this can be nerve-racking!) I’m determined to master it, but for now we’re still butting heads. Pictured is a couple of bowls that have minor glaze imperfections so I refuse to sell them. I should mention that I have a couple of boxes of this situation.
